Chapter 1
"Midori Fowke!" a high pitched shrill screetched through the ballroom, almost silenceing some of the conversations. As the clicky clap of heels ran towards a shapely brunette who was standing idily looking at once of the paintings for auctions."Midori Fowke" The voice said again.
Midori turned and smiled recognizing the voice " Paiva darling, it has been so long" The water nymph though moving fast still appeared majestic. She was tall for her kind, beautiful as they all were, flawless pale skin, hair the colour of platnium and eyes the colour of a storm. Which, they were usually the cause of. She did stand out a bit amoung the humans, appearing like a well maintained model.
"Oh Midori, I knew it was you. I sensed there was a few of us around
here, then i saw the stunning green dress and knew it was you. No other
Ash could ever pull off that colour" The blond said with a bubbly tone
as she kissed the other woman on her cheeks.
" I didnt expect to see a child of water here, but now i understand its
silly of me to not think you others would be here. Kedjimkujik is such
an important place for all of the earths childred, i am so happy to see
that others have taken an intrest. " the smile never left her face, it
had been years since she had seen her sea faring friend. " Course we did, cant have your kind getting all the credit all the time, you wood nymphs are all so goody goody, you seem to do twice as much work as the rest of us, and rumour is you never take any credit yet are never stopping"
" Please, we all do our part Paiva, " Midori said with a smile. It was true, as much as she did there was still so much more she needed to do, there was always just one more meeting.
"No you
Midori are an inspiration to us, or at least my boss, he seems to want
us all about doing so much for our young" She stopped awaiter who was
passing by and grabbed herself a glass of the bubbling champagne he had
on a tray. " Did you hear that we lost a whole school of spawns because
of that awful disaster in the gulf? A decade of our children gone in an
instant because of those cursed humans."
" I heard..." Midori said with a sad look on her face as she placed her
hand on Pavias shoulder " I am so sorry for your losses, I can only
imagine what a set back it has caused the Water Children, and my heart
bleeds for the parents of the spawn who will never meet their young. But
it was not all humans to blame." Pavia looked away not completly convinced of her friends argument." I must say your record has been impressive, what is it? not a seedling lost in the last 75 years of those under your care. How do you do it. " she took a sip of her drink and let her eyes wander around the room a moment.
" Im sure its the same as everyone of us does Paiva, we all love our children and want all to suruve and move forward as a race. I think mostly ive been lucky, Ive been able to negotiage with the humans for the land which we have bred on. " That was part of it, she also over the years had managed to accumulate quite a treasure hoarde and money was one thing all humans seemed to care about. Especially if you over paid for things.
" Oh its more then that look how easily you move amoung them one would almost think that you were a human, you cannot tell you are not one, besides your aura...and your eyes. My goodness you move like them" Paiva said excitedly.
" Of all the elemental children we are the ones that spend the most time with the humans, you have to think like that...you hold the humans eyes yourself your platnium hair and your stormy eyes. Not one of theses men here would not like to spend an evening with you. The other thing is now that humans have their hair so many colours your locks are not as odd...you can fit in quite well... the differenec is most of you rarley spend your time on land...you are used the flowing currents of the sea... the human world is so jagged and broken..."
" That is true, we do prefer to lobby our affairs on our own terms," the water Nymph said with a nodd.
" Yes, but i am very good at negotiating with coin, its important to all humans it seem, the thing is you have troubles because we cannot buy the sea from them. So they will always be there. Though " It was something that the Elders were trying to sort out, they had managed to buy some of the Water Childrens spawning points by purchasing land that the rivers ran through. The other option that had been in discussion was to head to locations where very few humans were. To the North or the south of the earth, but the Nymphs were such social creatures it was not something that any of them seemed to want to do. Instead they had to just take the mishaps when they happened. But in truth in all the Nymph species there was no worries about the Waters Nymphs exctinction just yet. Some had to be relocated because of the humans polluction and somes demies had occured because of it. BUt they were still thriving. Not the same could be said about the Dryads of the Trees.
" You are so very right, but enough about that. How have you been. We havent seen eachother since, oh well was it during the 6 billon confrence? What was that 1999?" the blond asked curiously.
" I think thats Is it, the day they figured the 6th billion human on earth was born.... Wow, that seems like ages ago Paiva. We really need to spend some time and catch up. I bet you have had so many exciting things happen in the last ten years." Her smile never left her face, it was true she would have loved to spend some time with the other Nymph. Paiva had always been kind to her, and had come to her assistance in many circumstances.
" I would love to catch up Midori! It has been so long." She took a small glance around the room " I do see that you are still guarded...has that changed at all?"
Midori shook her head. " No, I'm still under lock and key for the most part. There are less guards now, but they still keep an eye on me. "
" Oh Midori Darhling, you say it like it is such a bad thing, you are far to precious for us to allow anthing to happen to you. " A handsomly dressed aubrun haired man said as he swooped and planted a kiss on Midoris cheek. Paiva couldnt help but noticed the look on Midoris face for that second he spoke. but it had been quickly covered up with a smile.
"Of course, but i Just feel our resiources could beused for something so much more valuable...like watching the saplings, or helping those who struggle with the transitions to human forums. If more of us adapted...it would be easier for our survival..."
" Oh Midori and your silly ideas, the Council will allow no such thing..." He smiled and took the Paiva's hand and kissed it. " Blakley Livington, Im charmed to meet any friend of my dear Midori."
Paiva looked to Midori for some sort of explanation but there was none to be found, the Dark haired woman looked at the ground at that moment and almost appeared overwhelmed in sadness. But then with the blink and as Blakley turned to face her her face was all smiles again. " Blake, this is Paiva, we have been friends for many Years. We havent seen eachother in a decade or so , but once we spent a great deal of time together when Sangay errupted in 37,"
Blake laughed " Wasnt that the accidental erruption the fire children caused after they got too much into the humans spirits?"
Paiva laughed "Yes it was, they rushed us their to help I belive we of the water had a spawn point that was in danger. And we had to help move some of the Hibernating elders in the area. "
" Oh yes, I do recall that. I wasnt sent of course. But my mother spoke about it to me in great details later." Blake said in a matter a fact voice.
" It was very worrysome, I'm glad no one was seriously hurt. I do think those responsible got in quite a bit of trouble. I think they were shackled to the Mountain for 100 years..." Midori said sadly. "It was just a bit of fun, they didnt mean any harm. They should be free in a few years though, Im sure they cannot wait."
" You think anything is going to change when they get out?" Blake said. " The damn Fire Children will just do it again. They are nothing but destruction and Chaos."
" Impressive, you've always managed to make sure powerful friends Midori, I am quite jealous." Paiva said finishing off her drink and handing it to a waiter who was passing by. "But i must leave you for the evening. Im sure you have alot planned. We have to catch up just you and me Ori, I've missed you."
Midori smilled and moved to hug the other woman. " I've missed our time
to Paiva. How does a walk tomorrow sound? Ill meet you down by the
Casino around noon?"
"Sounds lovley, it's been so good to see
you. " Paiva smiled her eyes not leaving Midori's it was clear that they
needed to talk, Midori was hiding something and she needed someone to
talk to. " Ill see you tomorrow earth sister"
